Garden talks: The Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation is hosting its second annual garden talks featuring experts from the Puget Sound region.

Classes are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.

Tickets are $65 for entire series or $12 per session.

* “More Than Just Native Plants: Sustainable Gardening and Everyday Practices,” with Linda Plato, Feb. 4.

* “How to Prune Difficult Plants: Rhododendron, Wisteria, Japanese Maple, Hydrangea, Viburnum Bodnantense and Callicarpa (Beautyberry),” with Cass Turnbull, Feb. 18.

Garden classes: The Center for Urban Horticulture at the University of Washington announces its winter schedule of classes and lectures for January through March.

Garden show tickets: Advance tickets are now available for the 17th annual Northwest Flower &Garden Show to be held Feb. 9 through 13 at the Washington State Convention Center.

The show includes 26 fully designed gardens, container garden exhibition, seminar series sponsored by Sunset magazine, a marketplace and an orchid display.

Tickets are $65 for a five-day pass, $16 advance tickets, $19 tickets purchased Feb. 2 through 13, $15 for groups of 20 or more, $13 half-day at the door, and $7 ages 4 to 11.

Free trees: Ten flowering trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during January.

The 10 trees are two white flowering dogwoods, two flowering crabapples, two Washington hawthorns, two American redbuds and two goldenrain trees.

The trees will be shipped at the right time between Feb. 1 and May 31 with enclosed planting instructions.

To become a member of the Foundation and to receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to 10 Free Flowering Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Jan. 31, or visit www.arborday.org.

Horticultural therapy class: Edmonds Community College’s Social and Human Services department offers a horticultural therapy classes.

In the “Indoor Programs for Horticultural Therapy,” learn about designing and implementing therapeutic horticulture activities throughout the year. The class is 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 26.

Historic Seattle: Historic Seattle announces its 2005 education program schedule.

The annual series features lectures, tours, workshops and fairs that offer the best of architectural heritage in town and out, exposure to authors and designers, how-to information for saving and preserving buildings and entry into private properties.

This year’s neighborhood exploration program focuses on West Seattle. Preserving Your Old House programs focus on recycling salvaged materials and restoration of older homes, along with a field trip demonstration on making reproduction tile.
