Don’t throw away your old coffee grounds. Recycle!
Here are four ways to use leftover coffee grounds and stray coffee beans, courtesy of Coffee.org, an online coffee company.
Cleaning: Grounds have a mild scrubbing action and can be used to clean any stain-resistant surface. They work especially well on greasy kitchen messes.
Remove odors from hands: Rub a few coffee beans in your hands after working with garlic, onion or fish. Oils released from the beans will absorb smells.
Gardening: Coffee grounds have been proven to provide “generous amounts” of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and copper to garden soils, according to Sunset.com.
Grounds also release nitrogen and add acidity to the soil as they degrade. Dig them about 6 inches into the soil. You can also add the grounds to your compost pile.
Recycle: If none of the ideas above sounds enticing, simply throw your grounds and filters into your curbside yard-waste bin for commercial composting.
