A midwinter staple at Monroe’s Evergreen State Fairgrounds returns this weekend.
The 2010 attractions for the Cascade Mountain Men Show include originals and replicas of pre-1840 muzzle-loading firearms and gun-building kits and accessories for them; examples of 18th-century clothing, camping gear and craft supplies; and historical and other types of books.
Washington Historical Gun Builders Guild members will make rifles or powder horns and answer questions. Demonstrators also will carve wood and engrave rifles.
“This is the only show of its type in the Northwest,” Cascade Mountain Men secretary Steve Baima said.
The group’s arts and crafts displays, he said, represent America’s colonial period. Demonstrations will include weaving or wool spinning on both days.
Also this weekend at the fairgrounds’ Pavilion (otherwise known as Building 600), the Washington Arms Collectors Gun Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Arms Collectors show will feature examples of more modern arms than those at the Mountain Men show.
Its admission is $7 for ages 17 and older. Find details at 425-255-8410 and www.washingtonarmscollectors.org.
