Go wild at the zoo for Valentine’s Day

Looking for an unusual way to spend this year’s Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart?

Woodland Park Zoo and Point Defiance Zoo &Aquarium are planning special adults-only Valentine’s Sweethearts’ dinners.

Woodland Park Zoo offers a five-course gourmet meal prepared by chefs from Rain Forest Catering at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The menu includes appetizers, salads and roast duck, sea scallops or a fillet of beef medallion. Dessert, coffee and herbal teas are included, as well as a glass of champagne. Cost is $45.

“Go Wild,” Point Defiance Zoo &Aquarium’s romantic event, is 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and features an evening at the zoo’s North Pacific Aquarium. Guests will be treated to a candlelit gourmet dinner, a free tango lesson and dancing, and a special presentation on the wild side of animal attraction.

Cost is $90 a couple. Reservations are required.

Tea etiquette instructor Susan Springer will offer “Valentine Tea and Etiquette” at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hattie’s Tea Room, 9504 271st St. NW, Stanwood.

Springer’s adults-only demonstration includes the history of Victorian and British tea traditions. She will use authentic antique tea accessories throughout the full afternoon tea course.

Learn the correct ways to prepare and serve tea, discover tips for finding specialty tea foods and accessories locally, and learn to present a spot of tea any time of day.

Cost is $35. Reservations are required. Call 360-939-0437.

Women Chefs &Restaurateurs presents its annual “Menus With Meaning” program in support of its scholarship and mentor programs.

“Menus With Meaning” is a series of 80 benefit dinners in 53 cities taking place from Sunday through March 15.

Proceeds go toward the education of the next generation of women chefs and restaurateurs.
