Introspective but mercifully missing the poor-me streak, Juliana Hatfield’s new “In Exile Deo” album should play well across the country with its 12 original songs.
The ex-Blake Babies front woman performs tonight in Seattle with songs that stir rock, pop, hooks and a healthy dash of darkness into a melodic stew.
This is self-analysis without the angst, the mist of confusion clearing under the glare of experienced assessment by an adult alt-rocker. If you liked “Only Everything,” you’ll love “Exile.”
Reggie Garrett, Gary Westcott. Rhythm guitarist and vocalist Garrett joins multi-instrumentalist Westcott on Saturday in Everett to perform original songs with traditional folk ballads, although many genres influenced the mix.
Karrin Allyson. Two-time Grammy-nominated jazz singer has a new CD out this month, “Wild For You,” taking a risk with her interpretation of 13 pop-oriented songs. She performs Tuesday through June 27 in Seattle.
Steve Smith &Buddy’s Buddies. Straight-ahead high-energy jazz combo makes its West Coast debut June tonight and Saturday in Seattle, led by award-winning drummer Steve Smith and Buddy Rich’s daughter Cathy Rich. They play music from the Buddy Rich songbook.
Joan Sebastian. Grammy-winning El Poeta del Pueblo (the People’s Poet) pronounces his first name Joe-uan. The writer of hundreds of pop songs has been an icon on Mexico’s Top 40 charts since 1977. He’ll perform Sunday in Seattle. Expect the mix of mariachi, Tejano and Latin pop that brought him two Songwriter of the Year awards.
