It seems there’s always been a fine line for soap opera actors and their fans between fiction and reality.
Jennifer Finnigan, the star of CBS’s new primetime drama “Close to Home” spent about three years on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and said in July in Los Angeles that fans still come up to her and recognize her as Bridget Forrester. She said the worst part of her stint was “being frozen in a block of ice.”
Anyway, the fine fiction-versus-reality line that already exists underscores the disturbing side of an announcement ABC made today: “General Hospital” character Robin Scorpio will be writing a daily blog to commemorate her return to the show, starting Wednesday.
The blog will be found at www.robinscorpio.com.
Immediately after the show’s network broadcast, viewers will be able to read Robin’s first entry as she celebrates her 28th birthday alone and missing her family and friends.
Scorpio is played by two-time Emmy Award winner Kimberly McCullough, though I don’t think she’ll be the one writing the blog. ABC didn’t say who would pen the prose.
“Now a doctor living in Paris, Robin makes a return visit to Port Charles, for she is urgently needed back home but disaster strikes and changes destiny,” the ABC announcement reads. “Like the 1995 best-selling novel “Robin’s Diary,” which chronicled the character and her feelings for her first true love, Stone Cates — who eventually died of AIDS — the blog will give browsers a unique and entertaining look (not found anywhere else and separate from the show’s storyline) at the character’s innermost thoughts and feelings in a format that contemporary audiences can access every day on the Internet.”
