50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Ramy Lloyd, 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lloyd of Everett, was one of the hundreds of youngsters who had an audience with Santa Claus today as he made his second appearance downtown. Children ran toward his sleigh as it rolled up Colby Avenue, stopping near 25th Street. The bearded old man was aided by a select group of his reindeer and colorful clowns laden with candy canes.
Lincoln Junior High School in Marysville ended its football season with the seventh- and eighth-grade football teams winning championships. Dale Slater was the eighth-grade team captain and Greg Nylander was seventh-grade captain. Grant Hosterman was the coach.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The Herald’s All-Area soccer first team consisted of Jenny Verbeck, Snohomish; Sophia Vicent, Snohomish; Laurie Gillespie, Shoreline; Shelley Separovich, Shorecrest; Linda Gay, Snohomish; Tonya Antonucci, Mariner; Darla Cea, Cascade; Fritzi Grevstad, Shoreline; Angie Hood, Snohomish; Darla Scalf, Meadowdale, and Missy Lucas, Cascade.
With all but a few traffic lanes completed in the new Swamp Creek freeway interchange, south Snohomish County officials were kicking off a grand opening ceremony tomorrow.
