The Camano Island Chamber of Commerce invites you to join in the fun at its eighth annual Chili and Chowder Cookoff from 4 to 7 p.m. today.

Attendees can taste the recipes of more than 40 local entrants, then vote on which participant’s concoction is the best.

Participate in booth design judging contests and a raffle featuring donated prizes from area businesses.

The community event will be at the Camano Island Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.

For $5, sample eight varieties of chili and chowder.

The eighth annual Chili and Chowder Cookoff is sponsored by the Chamber, Camano Properties, Citizens for Clean Camano, EverTrust Bank and Whidbey Island Bank.

The local Daughters of Norway invite you to participate in the fourth annual Whidbey Island Nordic Fest at South Whidbey High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

Filled with exhibits, demonstrations and vendor sales, the festival is a great place to explore all things Nordic.

Ethnic food items include homemade bakery goods, lunch items, open-faced sandwiches, soups, Norwegian waffles, rommegrot (sour cream porridge), Verdens Beste Kake and coffee.

Area vendors sell everything from jewelry to clothing, cloth to carvings. Included in the sale will be hobby and gift items, pottery, doll clothes, photographic prints and cards.

Scandinavian authors Katherine Hanson, Kay Larson, Astrid Karlsen Scott and Jean Clark Kaldahl will be available for book signings and sales.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Pickled Herring Band, Shifty Sailors, Norwegian Ladies Chorus of Seattle, Young Skandia Dansers and Tre Norske Trio Players.

South Whidbey High School is at 5675 S. Maxwelton Road, Langley.

The 54th annual film, “Journey,” features all the best ski and snowboard footage from top athletes throughout the world.

Four continents, 19 film crews and 73 athletes later, Miller releases yet another extreme classic.

This year’s release takes viewers on a journey from California to Chile, Alaska to Italy, and some of the best backcountry spots in the world.

Boarders and skiers flying down powdered slopes and performing gnarly tricks include Glen Plake, Bode Miller and Terje Haakonsen.

Viewers receive vouchers to ski in British Columbia including on lift ticket, a G.I. Joe’s gift card with purchase and a coupon for 25 percent off snow sports accessories at REI.

If you missed Friday’s showing in Everett, see it in Bellevue at Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE Sixth St. at 3, 6 and 9 p.m. today, or 2, 5, and 8 p.m. Sunday.
