Lynnwood Community Band will perform a light-hearted program of classical music at 7 tonight at the Edmonds Church of God, 8224 220th St. SW, Edmonds.
Admission is free, however donations to the church’s food bank are encouraged.
Lynnwood Community Band, a group of volunteer musicians, has been “wood-shedding” this program that promises to entertain with a variety of classical styles. There are historical and modern compositions on the play list, including pieces from R. Vaughan Williams, John Philip Sousa, Steven Reineke and many more.
The program will also include performances by smaller instrumental ensembles.
“Animals and Music!”: Busloads of students from all over the Puget Sound region will experience “Animals and Music!” this morning in two school programs with the Everett Symphony. The students will discover ways in which composers can portray animals through composition and orchestration in such works as Gioacchino Rossini’s “Overture La Gazza Ladra,” the traditional “Turkey in the Straw,” Alan Hovhannes’ “And God Created the Great Whales,” Henri Mancini’s “Baby Elephant Walk” and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3.
The musical exploration, conducted by Ron Friesen and narrated by Cliff Lenz, takes place at Everett’s Civic Auditorium. Performing with the orchestra will be violinist Tonya Yu, an eighth-grader from Puyallup.
