Lynnwood’s got hip-hop and William Shakespeare in the park

Break Dancing and Shakespeare take the stage next week at Lynndale Park Amphitheater as part of Lynnwood’s free summer programs for families.

Breaking Point Dance Company is set to perform at noon Wednesday as part of the Wonderstage program.

Aimed at children 5 to 12 years old, the high-energy show includes hip-hop and break dance and invites kids to show off their stuff on the stage with the performers. Trader Joe’s will have free popsicles after the performance.

Later in the day, see the classic comedy “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” part of the summer Shakespeare in the Park series. The performance by Wooden O Theatre is set for 7 p.m., with a repeat performance at 7 p.m. Thursday.

WonderStage (through Aug. 22) and Shakespeare in the Park (through Aug. 9) are sponsored by the Lynnwood Arts Commission, the city of Lynnwood Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, Target, Rock-It Music and Trader Joe’s. The program also received a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.

All free performances are at the Lynndale Park Amphitheater, 18927 72nd Ave. W. in Lynnwood.

In case of rain, the WonderStage performance is moved indoors to Lynndale Elementary School Gym, 7200 191st St. SW, Lynnwood. There is no rain-out site for Shakespeare in the Park.

For more information, call the Lynnwood Recreation Center, 425-771-4030.
