Cafe Zippy has a new mural.
And the community has 32 students to thank.
Cafe Zippy is holding a special event to do just that.
The cafe is hosting a “Cafe Zippy Art Opening” today so the community can check out the mural and meet some of the students who brought an inspired piec
e of artwork to downtown, a piece that presents a glimmer of what Everett can be, Zippy’s co-owner Marilyn Rosenberg said.
Cafe Zippy moved to Wetmore Avenue from a location on Hewitt in early April. After the move, Rosenberg contacted the art department at Everett Community College. The fruit of that initial conversation can now be viewed by anyone walking by the cafe.
“The mural is a wonderful collaboration between small business, community, education and the arts,” Rosenberg said. “The mural is a future view of what Everett can be.”
The collaboration, she said, shows what can happen when community comes together.
The mural is made up of five panels depicting an urban scene. The scenes show an organic farmers market, a family-oriented community and Cafe Zippy’s Dalmatian namesake.
Some of the students who donated their time and talent will be at the special reception from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Cafe Zippy, 2811 Wetmore Ave., Everett. For more information call Rosenberg at 425-303-0474.
Also, for the month of October, Cafe Zippy is featuring local artists Janet Meyer and John McAlpine, who will be exhibiting original works in pastels, watercolors and acrylics.
The works of the artists will be on display until Nov. 15. The mural is permanent, Rosenberg said.
