Whale watching: Island Adventures’ three-hour tours depart from Everett through May. Tours also leave from La Conner, Anacortes and Port Angeles; months vary. Everett’s rates are $69 for adults, $49 for children ages 3-17 and $1 for children younger than 3. More at www.island-adventures.com

Eight-Mile: Help repair a trail leading to Squire Creek Pass off Mountain Loop Highway near Darrington from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 29. The hike to the project site is expected to be 2-4 miles round trip over steep terrain. Work will include annual maintenance and possibly a minor trail relocation. No experience is necessary, but expect to be physically active at your own pace for up to six hours. Recommended ages are 10 and older; kids younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult and a parental consent form needs to be signed for anyone under 18. More at www.wta.org.

Adopt a stream: Stream ecologist Tom Murdoch will present five ways to “adopt a stream” at 7 p.m. May 30 at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Learn how to gather and use physical, biological and chemical information to protect local streams, as well as the politics about local watersheds. Registration is required. Free park-ing: The next day to visit Washington state parks without an entrance fee is June 1, National Trails Day. Other free days are June 8 (National Get Outdoors Day), June 9 (Fishing Day), Aug. 25 (National Park Service’s birthday), Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Nov. 29 (Autumn free day). Everett Mountaineers Open House: Learn about the Everett branch of The Mountaineers at an open house set for 7 to 9 p.m. June 5 at the Snohomish County PUD Building, 2320 California St., Everett. Speakers Nathan and Jeremy Barnes, brothers and co-authors of the forthcoming book, “Alpine Lakes Wilderness: The Complete Hiking Guide,” will share tips for exploring the wilderness. Habitat stewardship: The Habitat Stewards Training class is at 6 p.m. June 19 at the Island County Multi-Purpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive, Camano Island. Jetty Island Days: The 2019 season runs from July 5 to Sept. 2. Ferries depart from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays at 10th Street and W. Marine View Drive, Everett; $3 fee for parking; suggested donation $2 for adults, $1 for kids; 425-257-8304; everettwa.gov/jettyisland.

Ride to Canada: Join the Cascade Bicycle Club on a ride from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C., Aug. 23-24. The 175-mile route of scenic backroads starts at the north end of the University of Washington’s E-18 parking lot and finishes in downtown Vancouver over two days. More at www.cascade.org.
