Leave it to a Seattle band to come out with a super-elaborate coffee table book in time for Christmas.
“Pearl Jam vs. Ames Bros,” a collection of posters from 1995 to 2007, includes 229 images designed by the Ames Bros and Pearl Jam artist Brad Klausen.
“Visually, we draw inspiration from a vast library consisting not only of books, but memories, social and political issues and interesting personalities,” the Ames Bros write in the introduction. “The key is and always has been the fact that we see eye-to-eye with the band.”
The earlier work generally lacks a theme, but more recent posters often take jabs at the Bush Administration, because, you know, Pearl Jam no like George W.
Those posters include a grim reaper figure clad in an American flag and a series of posters that, when fitted together, spell out Neocon — but in a way where you can totally tell Pearl Jam isn’t hot for Neocons.
“Of course some fans were disappointed it didn’t spell out something more secretive in regards to the band – like the mystery name of Stone Gossard’s dog – you know, something deeper,” frontman Eddie Vedder writes in the book.
Two editions are available now for pre-order. For $50, you get 264 spiffy pages. For $200, however, you get a certificate of authenticity signed by the artists, 308 pages total, three silk-screened prints and other goodies, like “a special brilliant orange cover.”
My sixth favorite color — score!
