50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Ivan A. Franzen, 2609½ Rucker Ave., showed off his 33 pound, 11.5 ounce king salmon, which was worth the $1,500 top prize at the Eagles’ 13th annual Sal mon Derby.
Tradewell Stores Inc. formally announced that construction was to start soon on one of the Northwest’s most modern supermarkets at 20th Street and Broadway. It would include the very latest ideas in food display and merchandising, including a bakery. Frozen food, conventional and ready-to-serve would be emphasized.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
In Arlington, Dick Bailey said that Dick Simmons caught the biggest fish in a recent salmon derby, but he didn’t get a prize because his friends ate the fish. That’s what fish stories were all about.
