50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Maureen Duryee and the Stuchell sisters — Barbara, Jean and Linda — were dancers in Saturday’s Betty Spooner recitals. Their dance was a study in contrasts between a nature ballet and the modern beat. Another ballet featured Martha Stephenson, Janice Gellatly, Karen Spane and Barbara Falkner.
Lee Milliken of Everett was the winner in the Pepsi Cola bottle cap contest, it was announced by Everett Theater manager Richard Goldsworthy. Presenting the prize, an RCA Victor portable television, were Alexander Kick, owner of the Everett Bottling Co., and Howard Pederson, sales manager.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Ed Hansen, tournament chair of the Everett Open, announced that Seattle amateur Rick Fehr would make his PGA Tour debut. Fehr was completing work on a degree this summer and planned to turn pro in August.
Herb Metz combined fancy stepping, a few body twists and some teetering one-legged hops to win a graceless water ballet commonly known as log rolling. The event, held off the public boat launch, was one of many during the annual three-day Salty Sea Days festival.
