50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Bob Hilse of North Junior captured the VFW-sponsored marble shooting contest crown at Forest Park. Jerry Schmierer of Whittier won second place and Fred Phillips of Longfellow placed third. Bill Granger, junior vice commander of Post 2100, chaired the event.
Offering most everything for the garden and flowers that may be made from cedar, B&L Rustics was now in full swing north of Marysville. Started last year, most of the interim time had been spent in preparation for an efficient operation and in preparing a backlog of products. Owners were Del Brown and Harold Tremmel.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
The Tri-Valley Rose Society had several hundred entries for the rose show, much more than the eight in 1972 when they organized. The summer show was planned for July at the United Methodist Church in Arlington. Co-chairs were Faye Spence of Camano Island and Leona Klein of Arlington. Nancy Campbell of Darrington was club president.
Word from Detroit was that U.S. automakers recorded their best late-April selling period in five years because of booming demand and a shortage of Japanese cars in American showrooms.
