50 YEARS AGO (1959)
A goal of $7,936.20 was set for Snohomish County in its annual Easter Seal drive. Rosemary Mardesich had agreed to chair the drive. Money from the sale of Easter Seals was used to aid handicapped children and adults through rehabilitation and medical treatment, employment and education.
Leann Johnson, 14-year-old Everett swimming sensation, was one of the stars who would participate in the AAU Age-Group swim tournament at the Chuck Lee Pool on Sunday. Leann had won championships in Washington, Oregon and Canada.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
If the romance of European travel beckoned but the pocketbook said no, readers had an opportunity to see free travel seminars in The Herald community room featuring Rick Steves. He was showing slides and sharing stories about travel in Scandinavia and Mexico. Steves’ travel column appeared every Sunday in The Herald’s Venture magazine.
The Pathfinders recreational trail committee was meeting to discuss financing for a proposed 13.2-mile trail for bikers, hikers and horseback riders. Dick Stroedl, committee co-chair, would speak about constructing the trail on abandoned Burlington Northern right of way between Lake Stevens and Arlington.
