50 YEARS AGO (1958)
Pier One was packed to the gunwales and had probably never before held cargo worth so much. Besides the usual shipments, the Norwegian freighter Hoegh recently discharged such exotic goods as Philippine spices and Siamese tapioca. The Italian Paolo Toscanelli delivered Italian ceramics and French liqueurs.
The preservation of food by freezing was a rapidly growing industry and Snohomish County was among the Pacific Northwest leaders in developing the frozen pea crop. Caren Danielson was working with frozen corn at Twin City Foods in Stanwood.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Two restaurants were set for the new Everett marina project. They were Anthony’s Home Port and Pelican Pete’s. Pelican Pete’s, based in Pullman, would be a dinner restaurant. The owners of Anthony’s, who had a restaurant in Edmonds, said they planned to build an eatery unique to Everett. A third restaurant also was planned.
North Creek Presbyterian Church was hosting a harvest festival with a flea market, arts and crafts, pantry and fresh farmer’s market, horticulture and silent auction of goods and services this Saturday at Oak Heights School on 18th Avenue W.
