50 years ago (1961)
Emma Sexton of Everett, district president of Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865, visited the Nina Frye Tent No. 12 for a luncheon and meeting. Everett’s Board of Education was assured last night that Cascade High School would open Sept. 5 with the other schools of the district. Architect Harry Botesch detailed the degree of completion of each building of the campus.
25 years ago (1986)
You could almost visualize the USS Nimitz steaming around Elliot Point and into Port Gardner after Navy Secretary John Lehman said the Navy base here was “a done deal.” Area highlights included the Everett Giants against the Tri-Cities Triplets at Memorial Stadium, Snohomish County Blue Knights semi-pro football against the Auburn Panthers at Mariner High School stadium, and auto racing at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe and Skagit Speedway near Burlington.
