50 years ago (1962)
The Rosey Heights Garden Club met in the home of Dorothy Nelson where members made Christmas candles. Hostesses were Lou Moehlman and Marlene Kramer. The Christmas party Dec. 13 would be in the home of Beulah McKean.
Pvt. Paul Pilkenton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pilkenton, 2717 Cedar St., recently completed four weeks of individual training with the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Also in the Marines was Pvt. Bryan Mulcrone, son of Mrs. Agnes Mulcrone, 2531 Grand Ave. He was to complete four weeks of individual combat training, also at Camp Pendleton.
25 years ago (1987)
Senior Jay Jewell and junior Eric Elsemore each had two individual victories as Lake Stevens opened its swim season with a 98-60 non-conference triumph over Bellingham. Jewell won in freestyle events. Elsemore won in individual medley and breaststroke events.
After a year and half of trying, Sherwood Elementary School and 62 surrounding residences and a veterinary clinic were now part of Edmonds. The unanimous vote by the city was quick, but the process leading up to it was lengthy, said Mary Lou block, city planning director.
