Port Commissioners Charles Westrom, Tony Dyre and Bert Vanderwilt voted unanimously at last night’s meeting to appropriate $395,000 toward improvements on Pier One. The pier and the warehouse on it would both be extended by 100 feet.
William Osborne, principal at North Junior, congratulated Beverly King, the school’s 1961 spelling champion. Other finalists were Carol Refling, Michele Fletcher, Allen Upton, Anne Wood and Janet Pells.
25 years ago (1986)
Enterprising business people these days were building businesses along I-5 to lure unsuspecting Expo 86 visitors into county environs. Such a case was a new 42-unit motel project behind the Arco station at the Island Crossing interchange. Vancouver-bound tourists would have to stay somewhere near the freeway.
