50 years ago (1961)
Sam Manus, long time real estate agent and Silver Lake justice of the peace, was named chief civil deputy by Sheriff Donald Jennings. Manus had maintained his Silver Lake post since 1938. Walter Shannon would remain in the sheriff’s office as a captain.
Wayne Lundberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Lundberg of Lake Stevens, was presented the Christian Youth Fellowship award of the First Baptist Church of Lake Stevens by his pastor, Gordon Woodall. He received the award in recognition of his Christian Leadership.
25 years ago (1986)
After 61 years of local ownership, the E.A. Nord Co. was to be acquired by Jen-Weld, a door and window frame manufacturer from Klamath Falls, Ore. Jen-Weld of Everett was formed about a month ago and would be merged with the Everett door manufacturer after reorganization.
Gasoline dropped below a dollar per gallon at three Lynnwood stations. Leading the way was Mr. Kleen’s Car Wash Union station, followed by nearby Alderwood Shell and Lynnwood Chevron across the street. They were part of a wave of competing cuts across the Puget Sound area.
