50 years ago (1961)
John Baird Morton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon E. Morton, 3110 Broadway, received the Eagle Scout award at a recent Court of Honor held in Forest Park Memorial Hall by Post 1. A senior at Everett High School, he was a member of the Permanent Torch Honor Society and the basketball team.
A freak whirlwind blew the upper part of a barn across a county road, knocked down another barn, lifted three calves into the air and destroyed an apple orchard near Monroe yesterday. The apparent twister hit the Jack Robertson farm 3 miles east of town on the Stevens Pass Highway. Robertson and his sons, Brian and John, were milking cows in the barn when it was unroofed.
25 years ago (1986)
Dorothy Herivel, who was retiring at the end of the month after 25 years with the Employment Security Department in Everett, would be honored by friends and business associates at a dinner party on March 1.
Volunteers were needed to tutor elementary level students in reading and math in a program sponsored by the Sno-Isle Retired Teachers Association. Prospective tutors could contact Stan Ford for more information.
