50 years ago (1962)
Snohomish County’s bridge spanning the Skykomish River out of Sultan officially became the Willard Wyatt Bridge at exercises the day before yesterday. Harry Powell designed the bridge. Doris King of Sultan Ad Club donated the plaque. The Rev. Thomas Ludwig gave the invocation.
The Edmonds civic center became official today as officials conducted dedication ceremonies for the $50,000 structure. On hand were Mayor Sproule McGuinness, Lynnwood Mayor Jack Bennett and Larry Richardson with his Edmonds High School band.
25 years ago (1987)
The Herald was hosting The Great Herald Cookie Exchange. For added incentive the paper was offering a $200 first prize, $100 second prize, and a $50 third prize for the best holiday cookies in Snohomish County. Forum Columnist Judyrae Kruse was accepting the entries at the Holiday Inn on 128th Street SE.
Molly Mikulich, coordinator and longtime participant in Snohomish School District’s Comment Education program, and the Snohomish Police Department recently were honored by the Washington state Community Education Association for their efforts, especially involving a program for identifying and handling child and family abuse.
