50 years ago (1962)
Zell and Charles Barnett, owners of the London Café in Everett, bought The Steak House in Arlington. An open house was planned for sometime after Labor Day. The restaurant had a bar, banquet room and dining room.
James Cummins, president of the Forest Crest Community Club in Mountlake Terrace, was master of ceremonies during the dedication and open house of the club’s new pool. Patrick McMahan was largely responsible for the pool becoming a reality.
25 years ago (1987)
Earning letters of appreciation from the Marine Corps for outstanding service were Geoffrey O. Johnson, a lance corporal from Everett, at Jacksonville, N.C., and Cpl. Arthur D. Torheim, of Arlington, and Lance Cpl. David G. Hanka, of Brier, both stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Two-way radio communication was boon to officials who worked at widely separated parts of the Evergreen State Fair. Ed Daling wanted to locate his commercial booth coordinator, Larry Nelson. A quick call on the portable brought a quick response from the fair administration office.
