50 years ago (1962)
Helen Lalin, a retired teacher who headed the commercial department at Everett High School, had continued to teach commercial subjects to military personnel at Paine Field. She instructed military correspondence procedures after her students mastered basic typing skills. Lalin still found time to enjoy bridge and piano.
Brown the Plumber submitted the apparent low bid on the installation of a new water heating system in Everett City Hall. The firm’s bid was $600 plus tax. Other bidders were Glantz Supply, $819; Haskell Corp., $698, and Rucker Avenue Plumbing, $697.60. Calls for bids on construction of a foundation for a new park department comfort station at Legion Park failed to produce any bidders.
25 years ago (1987)
Marcia Dale, Neal Jeans and Kristi Hodler had all received promotions at Everett Mutual Savings Bank, Dale, formerly operations supervisor, was now operations manager; Jeans moved from operations manager to retirement/public funds office, and Holder was marketing assistant.
The Transmission Factory had opened a franchise at 4121 Rucker Avenue. The company which started in Marysville, had grown to 12 shops throughout the state. Derrick Morgan of Marysville was owner and operator.
