50 years ago (1962)
William D. Carpenter was named director of the Snohomish County campaign to raise funds to build and equip the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. The appointment was announced by Ross McIvor, chairman of the Snohomish County Chapter of the National Foundation March of Dimes.
Joanne Swander was named Sweetheart of Cascade Chapter, Order of DeMolay, last week and would be installed in the public installation of all officers of the DeMolay chapter June 9 at the Masonic Temple. The Everett High School junior was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.E. Swander.
25 years ago (1987)
First Presbyterian Church had Sunday church school at 9:15 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Dr. Edwin C. Coon’s message this Sunday was “The Introducer.” The Rev. Jesse G. Mabanglo was associate pastor, Louise Simpson was director of Christian education, and Dr. Frank Burgess ministered to seniors.
Harry and Ruth Kuhia put in a long night overseeing preparations for the benefit Hawaiian luau today at the Stillaguamish Senior Center. The pig came out of the special roasting pit at the center in the late afternoon. The dinner was open to adults.
