50 years ago (1962)
Lawrence Widmark, proprietor of Pastime Recreation in Arlington, had taken over ownership of his next door neighbor, Arlington Feed &Farm Supply, form Harry Sargent, who had operated the store the past eight years. Widmark planned to move the feed business into the building on the other side of his Pastime, formerly occupied by Wallitner Furniture.
Ted Butcher of Darrington was establishing a pole yard on Great Northern Railway property at Monroe with Charlie Engseth of Arlington as buyer.
25 years ago (1987)
Loren R. Baker, a longtime Everett civic activist respected for his community service and loved for his dry humor, died the day before yesterday. He was 90. Baker had lived here since 1923. Among the many groups he had served were the Everett Library board, Volunteers of America board, Historic Sites Commission, Snohomish County Museum and Everett Rotary.
Kwang Yul Lee and Sung Yul Lee played a homemade version of Hacky Sack near their Lynnwood home, using a puck made of plastic wrap. The brothers and their mother, Lee Oh Mak, were refugees from Cambodia who had been living in the United States for 10 years.
