50 years ago (1961)
Marine Pvt. Ronald L. Larsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Larsen of 1822 Colby Ave., was scheduled to complete four weeks individual combat training today at the Second Infantry Training Regiment, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Bill Reed, commander of Gay Jones Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Snohomish, was sweeping up some of the debris after strong winds tore the roof from the VFW building last night. Reed said they were planning to remove the roof, but not this fast. The collapsing roof narrowly missed the Oscar Enberg home next door.
25 years ago (1986)
A car plowed through a big puddle of water at Hewitt Avenue and Broadway as a dry spell ended in a big splash. The first significant rainfall in more than three weeks drenched the Puget Sound area this weekend flooding garages, basements and roadways and causing several power outages.
Something new was coming to the Everett Fred Meyer store on Evergreen Way that would help with the food budget. The food department was closing for remodeling that would make it a better place to shop and save. On Oct. 29 it would reopen as Fred Meyer Warehouse Foods.
