50 years ago (1961)
Warren E. Sisson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyndon Sisson, Route 3, Everett, was promoted to the rank of corporal in the United States Marine Corps. A 1959 graduate of Everett High School, he was now teaching English to children in Okinawa, Japan.
Marie Moon was crowned homecoming queen at Snohomish High School by student body President Bill Knittel. Princesses were Cheri Bennett, Karen Christopherson, Jani Bowen and Patricia Crabbs.
25 years ago (1986)
The Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club would host a new and ambitious undertaking this winter, according to club member John Kuljis. It would be the first-ever Snohomish County Sportsmen’s Show, to be held at the Everett Eagles on Dec. 1. Kuljis hoped to attract bass, duck, black powder, fly fishing, archery and other outdoor clubs.
Bette Bengasser, physical education specialist at Meadowdale Elementary, noted that the Edmonds School District had made strides in the past 10 years getting children more physically fit, but that it still had a ways to go. Louise Baker, manager of the district’s elementary education, said the focus had moved from competition with others to self-competition.
