50 years ago (1961)
Last evening saw the annual “Peapickers Ball,” the Processors-Farmers Dinner, sponsored by Stanwood merchants. The meal was served under the direction of Sara Bacher. Al Holte was master of ceremonies and Harold Fjarlie arranged the program. Twin City Foods and Stokely-Van Camp cooperated in other arrangements.
“Nights in Old Monroe,” a dinner-dance event with entertainment, was presented by Monroe Lions Club in Vasa Hall. Co-chairing the event were Ray Dahl and Dick Searle. Tickets were available from Lions Club members or at OK Sundries, Monroe Hardware, Larry’s Food Store and Coast-to Coast stores.
25 years ago (1986)
Three members of Everett Book Club were honored as the 50-year members at the organization’s “Foremothers” luncheon. They were Gertrude Rucker, Fay Eriksen and Lillian Newton. The annual meeting, held at Everett Golf and Country Club, featured Gretchen Mathers as speaker. The club was organized in 1894.
David Bohannon of Arlington was a member of the 100-voice cast of Up With People, which would perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City. He was currently on a world tour with Up With People’s Cast B.
