50 YEARS AGO (1960)
The Snohomish County Centennial was coming up next year and The Herald made a plea to the public to borrow any pictures they might have of the county in its infancy. The Herald hoped to publish some of them in its special Centennial edition.
A canvass of the city would be made soon by members of 13 local garden clubs to find any evidence of the presence of the European pine shoot moth in ornamental pines in Everett. Making plans for this were Daphine Gorbutt of Bayview Garden Club, Pearl Kennister of Evergreen Club and county extension agent Frank Johnson.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
A Chehalis ultralight pilot walked away without injury after making an emergency landing in his small craft. Jim Scott, manager at Arlington Ultralight Airport, said the plane had only minor damage after landing in the field.
A forest fire on Mount Pilchuck that burned over the weekend was under control and being mopped up. It was being watched for any surviving sparks. Marsha Schad of the Department of Natural Resources said the fire was started by logging equipment at about the 3,200-foot level.
