50 YEARS AGO (1960)
The public would be greeted in a birthday-themed room when the Twig Shop Ninth Birthday Sale began at the Jordan Home of Everett General Hospital. Among those on the committee planning the event were Patricia Wold, Lois Maulsby, Helen Jensen and Frieda Tostevin.
There were hundreds of values at the Bonanza 88 store at 2615 Colby Ave. in Everett. Every item was 88 cents. Other Bonanza One Price Stores were located in Mount Vernon, Seattle, Renton, Auburn, Olympia and Centralia.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
A host of local and state officials were trying to convince owners of Western Gear Corp. to remain in or near Everett if its 20-acre site on the city’s waterfront was taken over by the U.S. Navy. For Western Gear, time was running out, depending on the Navy proposal and what company officials decided about the future.
Traffic was slowed on I-5 for about four hours yesterday when an empty semi-truck overturned in the southbound lanes, south of 196th Street. Washington State Patrol spokesmen said the driver had swerved to avoid hitting another truck. The driver avoided serious injury.
