50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Wayne R. Cross, owner of the Village Cafe in Marysville and Wayne’s Restaurant in Lynnwood, purchased the Everett Mannings Cafeteria, 2818 Colby Ave. Cross, who served as manager of the firm’s cafeteria from 1942 to 1953, would take over ownership and operation tomorrow. Mannings, an Everett tradition since 1921, would become Wayne’s Cafeteria.
John J. Bourasaw, 2327 Rainier Ave., would graduate June 3 from St. Martin’s High School in Olympia. He planned to enter Everett Junior College to continue his education leading to a mathematics teaching position.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Renee C. Williamson of Everett, a sophomore at Washington State University, was selected to attend the University of Bonn, West Germany, for the 1985-86 school year. She was a political science major.
The average American household contained fewer people than ever last year, while families with children increasingly were headed by a single parent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The decline in the size of the household, from an average 2.73 persons in 1983 to 2.71 in 1984, resumed a trend which had been strongly progressing since the 1960s.
