50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Abe Glassberg, managing editor of The Everett Herald, would be the speaker at the Everett Central Lions Club meeting. He was leading a city beautification contest sponsored by the Evergreen District Federation of Garden Clubs and The Herald. Henry Kral of the Everett Mountaineers told of the wilderness area of the North Cascades at last week’s meeting.
With the arrival of daytime clam tides for the residents and visitors to Camano Island, scores of people dug clams along the west shore. According to park superintendent Al Emerson, 1,800 people visited Camano Island State Park over the weekend.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
J. Gary Lawrence, administrative assistant to Snohomish County Executive Willis Tucker for the past four years, resigned today to take a similar position with the city of Redmond. An Ellensburg native, Lawrence had been with the county since 1979.
Fourteen students in Doris Wentworth’s class at Snohomish High School had a night to remember. They were guests of the Seattle Opera and were treated to a pre-performance tour backstage and then enjoyed the company’s final dress rehearsal of Puccini’s “La Boheme” at the Opera House.
