Members of the Everett Philharmonic have been told they know how to swing.

And you can swing with them Saturday during the philharmonic’s gala, “Spring Fling on Broadway,” at the Everett Events Center.

The event includes a suite of songs from famous Broadway musicals, including “People” from “Funny Girl,” “Try to Remember” from “The Fantasticks,” and selections from “West Side Story” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

Music director and conductor Paul-Elliott Cobbs leads the philharmonic.

“Our group does pops and jazz very well,” said the philharmonic’s operations manager Cami Davis. “Paul has been through all those genres, so the philharmonic swings. We know how to do it.”

The operatically trained singer Gail Neil will join the orchestra. Neil will perform pieces from “Carmen” along with “Shall We Dance,” from “The King and I” and “Send in the Clowns” from “A Little Night Music.”

The evening includes a champagne reception with dinner choices of pork tenderloin, chicken Parmesan or butternut ravioli and a wide selection of complimentary wines.

There’s dancing after dinner with live music provided by The Curators, a jazz combo.

Guests also will get a sneak preview of the Everett Philharmonic’s new 2011-2012 season, Davis said.

“Spring Fling” runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Events Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.

Tickets are $70 each. Call 206-270-9729 or go to www.everettphil.org.
