Coming soon to Seattle Experience Music Project is Kermit the Frog. He’ll be joined by Big Bird, Cookie Monster and the gang.
They’re all part of a new exhibition called Jim Henson’s Fantastic World from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and The Jim Henson Legacy.
The exhibition examines Jim Henson’s creative genius and visitors will get to see stuff they had no idea Henson created or was involved in, including some of his really early commercial work involving Ralph the Dog and Cookie Monster.
Jim Henson’s Fantastic World will open at noon May 23 at Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame at Seattle Center, 330 Sixth Ave., N., Seattle, and remain on view through Aug. 16. experiencemusicprojectsciencefictionmuseum.org
The show is not billed as a children’s exhibit by any means, though there will be lots there to entertain children but there’s lots of grown-up stuff too.
Part of the exhibit takes us full circle to some of the most current things Henson had his hand in before he died in 1990.
Sid the Science Kid is a show you should check out.
It’s a half-hour PBS Kids series that teaches kids about science using the premise all kids are scientists because they are constantly learning about the world around them. The show is computer generated and produced by Jim Henson Productions using the Henson Digital Puppetry Studio, which allows puppeteers to voice digitally animated characters in real time.
So basically Henson brought us Sesame Street and Sid the Science Kid. Sid even sings a song “My mom is cool.” We miss you Jim.
