What:Is it just us, or does everyone feel a vague sense of dread when it’s time to stick a hand down the garbage disposal? The Alligetter helps make that unpleasant task a bit easier. The device, a 12-inch grabber, fits down the disposal and plucks out rings, broken glass or cherry pits — almost anything, really.
Advantages:The Alligetter has an LED light on its tip, helping illuminate stray objects. The grabber also may come in handy when something slips under a low sofa or the refrigerator. The Alligetter itself, looking very much like a translucent reptile with a glowing eye, has serrated teeth to clasp objects. And after removing the light, the device is dishwasher safe.
Limitations:The manufacturer discourages using the Alligetter to wedge out objects that are stuck in the disposal, implying it may not take the strain. The Alligetter includes the AG3 batteries, which only have a six-hour life span. But you may not be using the light feature very often since it would be difficult to peer in past the flaps on your disposal anyway.
