‘The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything’
The latest full-length feature from the funny folks at Big Idea Productions (2002’s “Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie” — “the most successful vegetable movie of all time”), “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie” follows the adventures of three of the veggie pals who work in a pirate-themed dinner theater as cabin boys/servers yet long to be part of the show. Timid Elliott (Larry the Cucumber), lazy Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt) and insecure George (Pa Grape) are pulled into action, and back in time, when a “helpseeker” sent forth by a beautiful princess finds them and sends them to the 1700s to rescue a prince and princess from their estranged brother, a pirate named Robert the Terrible (“easily the most evil gourd ever to sail the sea” with an iron claw “that can pulverize any vegetable, into a fine puree”). As has come to be expected from VeggieTales, the music is top-notch: An end-of-credits closing number spins off of the B-52’s novelty tune “Rock Lobster,” and a variety of Christian artists make up the soundtrack, including Newsboys and Tobymac. Rated G, the movie is playing at Alderwood Mall, Everett, Meridian, Woodinville, Cascade Mall and Oak Harbor.
