With a new group member and a recently released DVD loaded with new songs, “The Wiggles” have returned to the Everett Events Center to give devoted Northwest fans two shows today.
Local fans of the children’s entertainers are invited to bring roses for Dorothy the Dinosaur, bones for Wags the Dog, and to be ready to dance in the aisles to The Wiggles’ lively music.
In fact, not only are singing and dancing encouraged, but the performers will, at times, take their own dance moves from the stage into the aisles among the crowd.
Those in attendance are also welcome to bring homemade signs to wave during the show, and to yell, “Wake up, Jeff!” whenever the purple-clad performer falls asleep onstage.
The rest of the group’s supporting cast, including Captain Feathersword, Henry the Octopus and the Wiggly Dancers, will accompany the four Wiggles, Dorothy and Wags for the shows.
Today’s shows, part of a tour to promote the new DVD, “Racing to the Rainbow,” which was released a few weeks ago, will include both classic and new songs.
“‘Racing to the Rainbow’ is a video about following your dreams, and the tour just gets the audience engaged and thinking that they can do what they want to do,” said Sloan Coleman, vice president of The Wiggles Live! USA. She said The Wiggles’ dreams include playing for a professional football team or a rock band.
The “Racing to the Rainbow” tour marks the debut for Sam Moran, the new Yellow Wiggle. A chronic health condition forced Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, to leave the show in November. Moran first joined the group in 1998 as a “Dorothy the Dinosaur’s Dance Party” host and also previously understudied the Yellow Wiggle role.
According to the group’s public relations staff, the Wiggles have performed approximately 300 shows for more than 1.5 million U.S. fans since 2005. They also put on more than 200 shows annually across four continents.
The Wiggles and Friends return today to Everett Events Center.
