Theater camps for kids on break

The sun will come out even during winter for kids who sign up for the Village Theatre Kidstage Holiday Break Camps, where they’ll learn songs inspired by the musical “Annie,” get prepped for an audition and gather tips to land that dream role.

For second- through 12th-grade students, the Holiday Break Camps this season are “Musical Theatre — Annie,” “Ensemble Audition Prep Workshop” and “The Business of Show Business.”

Here are the details:

“Musical Theatre — Annie”: Put sun into your winter break with songs and dances inspired by the musical “Annie” and explore singing, dancing and acting with accomplished performing artists. Then share what you’ve learned with family and friends during the last half hour of camp. For grades 2 through 4. From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 28 and 29. Tuition: $125.

“Ensemble Audition Prep Workshop”: Learn how to develop your song and monologue into a winning two-minute performance. This intensive camp aims to improve your audition skills and make the process low-stress and unforgettable. The workshop is recommended for the upcoming “Seussical Jr.” auditions. For fourth through eighth grades. From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 29 and 30. Tuition: $125.

“The Business of Show Business”: A panel of experts including Village Theatre artistic director Steve Tomkins, casting and company manager Suzie Haufle and actor Ryah Nixon, currently on stage in “Meet Me in St. Louis” will share what every actor needs to know: audition prep help for college, conservatory, or professional shows; finding the right roles and how to get them; creating fabulous headshots and resumes; and when and how to join a union. Camp will conclude with a question and answer panel in small break-out sessions. For eighth through 12th grade. From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec.28. Tuition: $75.

Registration forms are available at www.villagetheatre.org or by calling the Youth Education office at 425-257-6371. Each registered student will receive one half-price single ticket to any Village Theatre Mainstage production currently on sale.

Kidstage is a year-round performing arts training program in Issaquah and Everett for ages 3 to 20.
