THEATER

Historic Everett Theatre: The Outcast Players present the mystery farce “Exit the Body” from Aug. 8 and Aug. 10-11 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. A mystery writer rents a New England house that is the rendezvous point for some jewel thieves. The focal point of the set is the closet that opens into a living room and a library. “Summer Shorts”: Showing through Aug. 11 at the Pheonix Theatre, 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds, followed by Aug. 16-25 at the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theatre, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. These two theaters teamed up to present a collection of 10-minute comedic plays by local playwrights. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15. The 2019-20 season includes “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Guys & Dolls,” “She Loves Me,” “Hansel & Gretl & Heidi & Gunter” and “The Wedding Singer.” Season tickets for all five shows are $330 general, $310 seniors and $260 youth.

The 2019-20 season includes: “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” “A Christmas Story: The Musical,” “Pride and Prejudice,” “The Producers” and “Unnecessary Farce.” Season tickets for all five performances are $120 general, $108 for seniors, students and military.

Red Curtain: The Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave., Suite J, Marysville (in the Goodwill shopping center, behind the Everett Community College cosmetology school); 360-322-7402; redcurtainfoundation.org. The 2019-20 season includes “Steel Magnolias,” “Dark of the Moon,” “Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical,” “A Funny Thing Happened…”, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” “The Rememberer” and “Once Upon a Mattress.” Season tickets, for all seven performances, are $125 for adults, $105 for seniors and students.

YOUTH THEATER

Village Kidstage: Cope Gillette Theatre, 2730 Wetmore Ave., Everett; 425-257-8600 or villagetheatre.org/everett/kidstage-everett.php. The musical comedy “The Music Man,” is showing at noon Aug. 9. Con man Harold Hill convinces the citizens of River City to start a band by purchasing the instruments and uniforms from him. But Harold is no musician. He plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Also: “School of Rock” Aug. 10-18.

Teen Troupe: Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds; www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org; 425-774-9600. “Matilda the Musical” brings Roald Dahl’s magical misfit to the stage at 8 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10, 2 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11. The hit musical won five Tony Awards, seven Olivier Awards and was named Time’s No. 1 show of the year in 2013. Tickets are $15.

Theater in the Park: See “Puss ‘n Boots,” a play based on the 16th century fairy tale about a cat who uses deceit and trickery to gain power and wealth, from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at Eagle Ridge Park, 10020 Lundeen Park Way, Lake Stevens. Free. There will be pre-show activities for children.

COMEDY

Comedy Garage: A weekly comedy showcase and open mic held Mondays at Tony V’s Garage, 1716 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Features regional comedians working out their longer sets and local amateurs trying new material. No cover. All ages. Sign up at 7:15 p.m.; show is at 8:30 p.m. On Aug. 12, Jesse Warren headlines. Chuckles on the Pilchuck: Collector’s Choice Restaurant, 215 Cypress Ave., Snohomish, hosts a third-Tuesday monthly comedy show. No cover. Must be at least 21.
