The Adopt-A-Stream foundation is ready to introduce you and your family to nature’s engineers.
The foundation is showing the Imax movie “Beavers” at no charge on Friday.
“In my opinion, ‘Beavers’ is one of the best nature films out there,” says Adopt-A-Stream Foundation director, Tom Murdoch. “It takes you on a ‘swim’ with beavers building a dam and a lodge … They are truly amazing engineers.”
The film is being sponsored by the foundation in partnership with the Snohomish County Parks & Recreation Department.
The film provides a close-up view of a family of beavers, capturing them as they play and work, transforming a forest of trees into a dam. The film is set in a pristine forest in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Because it is against the law to lethally trap beavers in the state of Washington, the critters are now being found in urban streams in cities including Everett, Seattle and Tacoma, Murdoch said.
Before the film begins, Murdoch will talk about a few experiences the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation has had with beavers in the local area.
“Beavers” will be shown for free at 7 p.m. Friday at the Northwest Stream Center, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. You must call 425-316-8592 to reserve a space. Call early because space is limited.
