UPN gets Busy, replaces Doherty on ‘Love, Inc.’

Mere hours after UPN presented its new sitcom, “Love, Inc.,” without a star at the TV Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, 26-year-old actress Busy Philipps walked into the networks stars party, appropriately enough, as the show’s new star.

Philipps (“Freaks and Geeks” and “Dawson’s Creek”) takes the place of Shannen Doherty (“Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed”), who was shown the exit after network executives and producers decided to “go a different direction” with the part.

“I never saw the original pilot with her in it, so I can’t comment on her performance,” Philipps said. “And I’ve never met her, so I can’t comment on her as a human. I’m really thrilled to have a job that’s picked up ion the air for 13 episodes where I’m one of the leads on the show.”

“Obviously, I wish her the best. Every actress at one point or another has lost a job, has been fired from a job,” Philipps. “I’m doing my own thing, and I don’t really know what she did, but I think my thing’s probably different, I can only guess from past work that I’ve seen her do.”

Thursday was a whirlwind for Philipps, who said they’ll start rehearsal for the pilot, and shooting will begin Aug. 5.

“This is so unbelieveably overwhelming right now,” Philipps said. “Where, literally six hours ago, I did not have a job, let alone a fall TV show.”
