UW World Dance Series sets season

The UW World Series has announced the 2006-07 UW World Dance Series:

Momix, Oct. 19-21; $42:

Moses Pendleton’s versatile troupe of dancers and illusionists freely mixes classical ballet, modern dance, gymnastics and theatrical illusion, creating surrealistic tableaux that are stunning, stimulating, and always entertaining. The troupe brings “Opus Cactus,” a suite of 21 dances built around an American Southwest theme set to music ranging from Bach to Brian Eno.

Noche Flamenca, Nov. 16-18; $42:

Born of passion, Noche Flamenca was founded in Madrid in 1993 by artistic director Martin Santangelo and his wife Soledad Barrio. It has developed into one of Spain’s most successful flamenco companies. All aspects of flamenco – dance, song and music – are given equal weight.

Shen Wei Dance Arts, Jan. 18-20; $42:

Two acclaimed works will be presented at the UW: Shen Wei’s “Rite of Spring” and “Folding,” which is like an installation of living sculpture, a work that disrupts the viewer’s sense of time and place.

The Parsons Dance Company, Feb. 22-24; $39:

Hailed for witty, intelligent works that bristle with energy and precision, David Parsons is one of the world’s most beloved and inspired choreographers. The Parsons Dance Company comprises nine full-time dancers and has a repertory of 70-plus works.

Sydney Dance Company, March 15-17; $42:

Led by artistic director and resident choreographer Graeme Murphy, Sydney Dance Company is Australia’s premier contemporary dance company, and its ensemble is acclaimed for technical finesse and artistry. Murphy’s new work, “Grand,” explores the dynamic in the relationship between dance and the piano.

Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, May 3-5, 2007; $39:

It is in the celebration of Jacob Lawrence that the DCDC brings together four exciting choreographers. Donald Byrd, Rennie Harris, Reggie Wilson and DCDC artistic director Kevin Ward have collaborated to create a ballet with a keen sense of the visual arts.

Series subscriptions ($142-$209) are on sale now at the UW Arts Ticket Office at 206-543-4880. Single tickets go on sale June 5.
