Preserving Chinese tradition: The art of Chinese ink and color is ancient and originated as home decoration. This detailed painting style has been well preserved and purified for thousands of years.
HonDuan Yang of Seattle is part of the reason this traditional art persists, as he continues to draw and teach and talk about this fascinating and beautiful art form.
Yang is exhibiting his work through September at the Solovei Art Gallery, 2804 Grand Ave., Everett.
“I see the exhibit by professor Yang as a wonderful cultural travel into the world of authentic art of China, the history of which counts centuries of carrying tradition of the style and spirituality,” gallery owner Lyussy Hyder said.
Yang’s signature subjects include the eagle, little swallows, peonies and orchids, the winter plum tree, upright bamboo trees, dreamy wisterias and cute yellow chickens frolicking in a back yard.
“A Gathering of Visions”: Six artists gather to share their visions in a multimedia show of form, color and fun. Curated by Raven Rocks Studio, the show and sale will include pyrograph gourds, original watercolor and acrylic paintings, American Indian drums and jewelry, collage, tapestry, prints and art cards.
