Visual arts talk: Holiday Show

Here’s the scene: There’s a warm fire burning. Beautiful art work surrounds you. You’re sipping something tasty with friends and talking about the holidays.

Yes. It’s a party. But this affair is at the 2008 Holiday Show, presented each year by the Arts Council of Snohomish County. This exhibit features more than three dozen local artists and brings the community a feast for the eyes and art for the soul.

The exhibit will open with a free “Meet the Artists” reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Arts Council gallery in the historic Monte Cristo Hotel, 1507 Wall St,, Everett. For more information, call 425-257-8380 or see www.artscouncilofsnoco.org. The show runs through Dec. 24.

The group show includes paintings, photographs, glass and ceramics. In memoriam, two plein-air oil paintings by the late and beloved Genevieve Tuck, the Arts Council’s 1995 Artist of the Year, will be available for purchase with the money raised going to benefit the Arts Council’s Visual Arts Education Center project. Tuck died earlier this year.

At 6:15 p.m., the city of Everett’s Cultural Arts Commission will present the 2008 Richard Wendt Award of excellence to Bob and Dona Anderson. This award recognizes the Andersons for their commitment to enriching community through the arts.

Sisters Greta, Willow and Solana Gothard have been playing music together since childhood, expanding from early violin lessons to playing guitar, mandolin, djembe, bodhran and more alongside vocal harmonies.

Tyson Love’s Airbnb is a mess. Worse, the company will only refund $14 of his rental fee, even though he bought cleaning supplies and cleaned the rental himself. Is that fair?
