What’s your fancy? Button collections, gardening and the outdoors

1. Button fest

Calling all button collectors, antique dealers, jewelry designers, quilters, crafters and curious people.

The Washington State Button Society Show is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1315 N. 160 St., Shoreline. Vintage, Victorian, calicos, uniform, modern, celluloid, rare buttons and more. Exhibits and workshops. Entry is free, with donations accepted (of money, not buttons).

2. Pretty pads

Get inspired, cheer on your neighbors and enjoy an evening of neighborhood and city pride at Everett’s Monte Cristo Awards on Oct. 12 at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and live music. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. The event is free.

Award categories include Green Gardening, for homeowners who have implemented natural or green gardening practices; Neighborhood Friendly Business, for overall visual quality from the street; Pride of the Neighborhood, for homes and yards that consistently look their best; and Rejuvenation and Transformation, for properties transformed by the owners.

3. Adventure, baby!

On the fourth Tuesday of each month, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Marysville Opera House, 1225 Third St., hosts an outdoor adventure speaker on topics including hiking, snowshoeing, biking, photography, birding and more. Cost is $3.

Next up: Sept. 26, Maria Mudd Ruth, author of natural history books, will show slides and do readings from her books on clouds and birds.
