Cantus presents Mountain Nights – A spectacular choral performance in Port Townsend

Join us for a breathtaking musical journey as Cantus, the renowned male vocal ensemble, presents Mountain Nights on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Townsend.

Cantus, now in its 29th season, will showcase the beauty and power of mountains through a rich tapestry of choral works inspired by nature’s wonders.

Featuring a repertoire of composers including Zoltán Kodály, Chen Yi, Gabriela Lena Frank, and Tōru Takemitsu, Mountain Nights explores the themes of inspiration, challenge, and awe that mountains evoke. Zoltán Kodály’s Mountain Nights sets the tone for the program, with other highlights including Chen Yi’s Chinese Mountain Songs and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Two Mountain Songs. “This program immerses audiences in both traditional and contemporary music, connecting us to the majesty of the mountains,” says Cantus tenor Alexander Nishibun.

Cantus is acclaimed for its blend of voices, innovative programming, and conductor-free performances. Praised by The Washington Post and The Philadelphia Inquirer for their expressive power and warm sound, Cantus has captivated audiences worldwide, performing at venues such as Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center.

The program includes:
