LAKE STEVENS — A North Lake Middle School student created a fake Snapchat account in his friend’s name and made threats to shoot up the school, according to Lake Stevens police.
The boy, 13, posted on the social media app around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday that he planned to kill his schoolmates and others, Lake Stevens police Cmdr. Jeffrey Beazizo said. Using his friend’s identity, he reportedly claimed he would save one friend — himself, in reality — as the last person he’d shoot, before taking his own life.
A parent called police. Officers tracked down the suspect before classes started at 7:40 a.m. They traced the post to the boy’s computer. The school did not go into lockdown, police said.
The boy admitted to making the fake profile and the threats, Beazizo said. The boy was released to his parents, with charges pending.
Another recent school shooting threat, at ACES High School in Everett, received national attention when a student bought a military-style rifle and wrote about detailed plans to kill his classmates, according to charging papers.
